It’s unclear what fuelled their belief that s/he could communicate with aliens. There’s some evidence to suggest s/he used psychedelic drugs. S/He also may have been prone to depression and bouts of mania, which could have played a role in some way.
Whatever the reasons, s/he was convinced extraterrestrials had chosen them to fulfil a greater universal purpose — something that far exceeded anything s/he could accomplish on planet earth.
Often, on a clear evening, S/He find themself looking up at the night sky thinking about them. The idea that there may be something out there — extraterrestrials, another universe or galaxy filled with life — is overwhelming.
Then, S/He would catch a glimpse of a shooting star or a meteor passing through the Earth’s atmosphere and smile: if only anyone could find a way to travel to another world beyond the cosmos.
After all, when s/he put their mind to something, s/he did it.

Contacting extraterrestrial lifeforms is difficult. This freshly spotted teleporting alien is a nuisance. S/He has seen the motion tracker go berserk before when tracking the alien on the walkway, it's not just moving fast, it's actually switching positions. You can't be sure where exactly the alien is going next. S/He has been stuck under a table watching the alien roam in a circle up and down the street.
