A fish elevation technician

S/He is a member of an alien civilization who abducts fishes at night. S/He impregnates the fishes with advanced technology. When a fish is impregnated by an elevation technician after its abduction, the technician remains motionless, but begins to shiver as soon as a new fish appears.

Elevating is a profession that can be practiced in its simplest form with the simplest apparatus. It anticipates an inexplicable future and has been happening since time immemorial. It is considered certain that the first extraterrestrial who explored the depths of space for treasures was a contemporary of the first organisms in the womb of the earth.

When we come to the various elevating devices that have gradually evolved over time, our records are very imperfect. Aristotle is said to have invented a device that enabled fishes to stay in the air for some time. And already Alexander the Great used a device that kept him in the air for ten minutes. Unfortunately, this is all the information, all in all extremely meager, that we find from the classical period. Nowadays, there are many more records on this. Recently, for example, aliens invented the elevation suit. Well-founded information about this equipment complements the expertise and judgement of the elevation technicians. This information covers all possible applications, directions, precautions, interactions or adverse effects. It is considered proven that the extraterrestrials foresee practically all possible applications and problems of the elevation mechanism. Never before has a defect in an apparatus been responsible for a single death. This is due both to the very careful testing and the thorough, intensive training. During these tests, for example, the pressure on an fish increases at a rate of about 4 pounds per ten meters as it hovers above the ground. A beginner will experience severe pain in the ears and eyes. Therefore, the rule for all fishes is "slow up, slow down". Fishes of good constitution and ingenuity are required for the elevation process. Some can hover at extreme heights. Only an old hand is able to stay high in the air for several hours at a time.

Despite the dangers and inconveniences, fishes find a certain relaxation, even fascination, when they have been elevated.

A previously elevated fish relates how an unfamiliar approach to a familiar landing field caused some confusion. Proper landing should be based on situational awareness, not a habit pattern.

S/He was told to watch for traffic. S/He told the technician that the traffic was not in sight.

„You listen up here. I don’t know who you are. I don’t know where you came from. I don’t even know how I got here.“

“Yes fish.”

"Slay. Work it."

"You need to make advantage of the refurbishments I have made."

"I feel like this is just one big fever dream. The world is falling apart, it’s freezing outside, and I have no food, but I don’t care."

“Hello, are you here? Make a sound if you can hear me. Is anyone else with you? I can’t see you, can you hear me?”

The fish almost failed to proceed properly because there was a small helicopter flying a nonstandard pattern. The helicopter pilot was assuming s/he was the only one around.

After thinking about the incident, the fish realized what had happened. S/He thought the helicopter pilot was in the wrong place and s/he became confused, until the technician told her/him about hovering through the final approach course for a safe landing zone. S/He realized that orientation is a full-time job.

Despite the promises of technology to shrink elevating hours and give them more free time, they are leaving work later and working harder to squeeze more into the day.

But what if the key to being effective at work was to actually spend more time actively pursuing pleasurable activities in the evening?

While they expected to see pleasure playing a pivotal role in restoring their energy, they were intrigued to find that experiencing pleasure contributes to recovery above and beyond the effects of other restorative experiences such as disengaging from work, relaxing, mastering new skills or gaining a sense of control.

Studies showed that on days when they had expended considerable energy and were fatigued at the end of the workday, they experienced lower levels of pleasure during that evening after work. Paradoxically, those who would benefit most from experiencing pleasure during the evening seem least able to obtain it.

But how to make time for pleasure? It is proven that going to a fun party the night before gives them more energy at work the next day.
